All good things have to come to an end. No matter how great it was to have an entire week of the whole family together all the time…I had to go back to work this past Monday.
To sleep, perchance to dream
Of course, I can only speak for myself, but it seems to be going pretty well. Fortunately, we’ve had a lot of help this week, which has made the transition easier. I feel like everyone I work with has asked me “Have you been getting any sleep?” with a sly grin, but I’ve had to answer “Actually, this week, I’ve gotten plenty.”
This is, of course, due to the fact that every night of the workweek so far, we’ve had a wonderful family member spend the night. Sunday night Carrie’s sister Becky stayed over (since, as a teacher, she had Monday off). This equaled a full night’s sleep for Dad.
Monday and Tuesday nights we were lucky enough to have Nana (aka “Carrie’s mom”) stay with us. Again, by her taking the super early morning shift, I was able to have two more nights of full sleep. And tonight, Carrie’s Aunt Jane is spending the night. However, since I’m working from home tomorrow, which means I don’t have to get up as early, I took the late shift. It’s currently almost 11 PM, which means I get to go to bed shortly (Henry just ate about 20 minutes ago, and Joey is going to be hungry again really soon. And even if he’s not, he’s getting woken up and fed so he syncs up with his brother).
The boys HAVE been pretty good in general, although the past two nights they’ve both been REALLY fussy. Generally speaking, up until now, they’ve been on a fairly stable “eat every three hours and sleep in between”. The last two nights, however, it’s been different. Both of them have been taking turns being cranky. Both nights featured at least one boy up most of the night needing to be held, because otherwise he’d just cry. I’m hoping to not experience that tonight, but time will tell.
Weight Gain 3000
Henry is turning into quite the little porker. He seems to be ravenous all the time, and he’s definitely putting on weight. The boys have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow, and we can’t wait to see how much they weigh. According to my loose calculations (i.e., weighing myself with and without the boys), it seems that Henry is a little over 7 pounds, and Joey is almost 6 pounds. Considering that at last week’s appointment they were 6 pounds five ounces and 5 pounds 5 ounces, respectively, that’s quite impressive. We’ll see what the tale of the tape says tomorrow, of course.
To summarize…
That’s about it, as far as updates go. Well, we had to buy a new dryer this week, as ours finally bit the dust. Considering it was 12 years old, we can’t really act too surprised. But if that’s the biggest news we have to report, I’m going to consider it a win. Here’s hoping we can have a few more weeks of quiet and calm. And that Carrie manages to keep her sanity while spending the entire day home alone with two babies that don’t actually do anything.
