Getting So Big

by Carrie Stratton on April 27, 2010

So I realize that we haven’t updated the blog as often as we would like. I guess life and taking care of two boys has kept us pretty darn busy. We have so much we want to share about how the boys are doing and how big they are getting. Matt is going to post a bunch of pictures this weekend, but now, I just want to post this picture and tell a story about today.

Yesterday and today have been hard for me because Henry and Joey have been very needy. Although they are sleeping through the night like champs, they have been boycotting their naps. They will only fall asleep if I am holding them, and then if I go to put them down, they wake up and scream their heads off. After 2 days of this happening for several hours, my nerves have become a little frazzled. So this afternoon, both boys were crying, so I was holding them and trying to shush and comfort them. Joey was sitting in my lap facing out and I stood Henry (who was screaming) up on my lap facing me and Joey and tried to look at him and get him to stop crying. Henry then sat down on my lap facing me and Joey and the next thing I knew, they both were giving each other giant grins. They went from fussing and being crabby to staring at each other and smiling in a matter of seconds.  It was the cutest and sweetest thing I’ve ever seen. Then Henry reached out and grabbed Joey’s hand and held onto Joey’s one hand with both of his hands. They held hands and smiled at each other for about 30 seconds. This was the first time that they have interacted with each other. I can’t wait to experience them interacting more and more. I know they’re going to become best buddies!

My boys did this a couple times this past weekend as well. Is it so sweet ! I also can't wait for them to interact more because let's be honest… it will give US a break ! I don't know how you are handling it – but I am beyond tired of doing most of the work alone… These moments are what we have to remember when we get frazzled nerves. Lots of love to you – my fellow Twin Mommy

Awww, what a cute story! I'm so glad I finally got to meet them in person! I noticed that both of them is always kind of looking to see where the other one is most of the time! They are going to be best buds!

How sweeeet! So glad you had a good moment in all that chaos.

I can't remember my girls ever accepting it if I tried to hold them both at that age… they'd cry unless they had my undivided attention (so yeah, I had to do a fair amount of letting 'em cry.) They did, however, nap well enough if I could get them to go to sleep in the swings.

Twin babies will always be a challenge, but it gets easier as they can do more for themselves. And eventually, yes, you have the bonus that they always have someone to play with (or — you know — fight with. Either way :)
