Keeping on with the truckin’

by Matt Stratton on January 25, 2010

Things continue pretty much the same this week as last. We’ve made it through one full week of “Matt at work, Carrie at home”, and are none the worse for the wear. As I mentioned in the last post, it’s been super helpful to have people over and helping with the nightly feedings…although that luxury is definitely short-lived, so we’re trying to not get too spoiled.

What’s up, Doc?

Henry and Joey had a very successful pediatrician’s visit last week. Joey weighed in at 6 pounds, 4 ounces (which is basically what his brother weighed at birth), and Henry topped the scales at 7 pounds, 5 ounces. They’re still considered pretty small for term babies (which they won’t be officially “term” until this Friday), but they’re getting up there in size.

The doctor determined that both boys are REALLY healthy, which is great (although both of them seem to have colds, and are very snuffly). She was pleased with how much they are eating, and said that we are really lucky to have two such healthy babies. We assured her that we were quite aware of that fact.

Family Ties

The boys met a whole slew of extended family this week. Carrie’s cousin Christie (who is mom to twins of her own) spent Monday afternoon with Carrie and the boys. H and J’s great-aunt Jane spent Wednesday night with us, which was a great help. And on Sunday, their great-aunt Rosemary and first cousin once removed Caitlin babysat for the boys while Carrie and I went out to dinner (and to Target). It was so great to have a little break together, and I’m sure the boys loved it.

Ridiculously cute! When Ben was little I swore I'd never get babyitis again. Now he's a big little man, and oh-oh-oh, I wanna hold a baby!

I have so many amazing memories of my 4 big kids as babies—such a tender time- and it goes like the wind………….with my baby at 13 now…….people in the family said when I took so many pics and did extensive baby books, why don't you document their every waking moment? I couldn't help it–I was so in love! When they start to look up at you when you feed them and THEY are in AWE, it is a miraculous thing. Having said all that, it makes sense that most of us do this when we are young, relatively so. 3 words of advice “get your rest” Parenting is both exhilerating and exhausting.
